Realm Workers Anonymous

– a short story –

By Kim Seppälä

Katie was a retired – not to mention tired – realm worker. It was 20 months into ‘the Apocalypse’ and she still had difficulties adjusting to normal human life. After the third time her partner had gently nudged her to seek some help, Katie finally gave in. She signed up for the RWA Club (Realm Workers Anonymous). Meetings were held in dream-state every Wednesday night at the Shaumbra Service Centre. According to the advertising flyer, they had even built a new wing in honour of the realm workers.

It had been over a decade since she last visited Tobias’ Service Centre. The place was like a 5-star spa, with crystal walls, candles lit with violet flames, and fragrant flowers in every room. They even had musicians playing live music attuned to each guest. Wow, if I had known how luxurious this place is, I’d have come a lot sooner, Katie thought. She approached the reception hall. A tall glowing angel floated behind the reception desk.

“Ah, you must be Katie for the RWA Club. Welcome to the Service Centre,” the angel greeted with a wide smile.

“I thought it was supposed to be anonymous,” Katie wrinkled her brow.

“That’s more of a branding thing. We don’t really do secrets in this realm.”

“I see. So where do I go next?”

“Now that you’ve checked in, you can join the meeting. Through that quartz corridor and first door on the left.”

“Thanks.”

“At your service.”

Slightly nervous, Katie knocked on the door. It was opened by a counselling angel with a vivid magenta-colored aura and piercing blue eyes.

“Just on time, come on in. You can call me Gabriella. One moment – Katie, what are these?” The angel looked appalled.

“Er, my wings?”

“I can see that, but why are you still wearing your realm worker wings?”

“Oh, I feel kind of naked without them” Katie whispered in embarrassment.

“Now, I don’t mean to ruffle your feathers,” Gabriella giggled at her own joke, “But we have one rule here: No wings. Burn them, recycle them, donate them to a museum. Just don’t wear them.”

“But-”

“I’ve been watching you, Katie. I know you still go to the other realms at least once a week to do more work.”

“I wouldn’t call it work. I just want to make sure that everything’s running smoothly.”

“We have new troops who are taking care of that. Which you know because you trained them.”

“Give her some slack, Gabriella. We’ve all been there,” a man with a friendly grin interjected. Katie looked around the room. A group of humans were seated in a circle, casually chatting with each other and observing her. Nobody was wearing wings. Reluctantly Katie removed and folded her wings.

“You are supposed to keep her accountable, Tom, not encourage her,” Gabriella said.

“Whatever. Welcome to the gang, Katie.”

“You can sit next to me,” a silver haired woman offered. “What kind of realm worker were you? A cleaner? Constructor? Path-finder?”

“I bet she was a warrior. Or an intergalactic agent,” A young woman guessed.

“Let’s not be pushy,” Gabriella chided. “That’s a very personal question; she will disclose when she’s ready. Now, first step. Repeat after me: The realm work is over.”

“The realm work is over,” Katie said awkwardly. The group clapped, cheered, and raised their wine glasses.

“You’re one of us now,” Tom declared and handed her a glass.

“Alright, let’s get this show started. Who wants to share today?” Gabriella looked around the circle.

One of the participants raised her hand. “So, I’m having difficulties staying in my body.”

“Hmm, are we talking tripping over things and general clumsiness, or full-on dissociation?” Gabriella asked.

“A bit of both.”

“I’m scanning your biology, and it looks like you’re dehydrated. You need to drink more water and take walks in nature. How about the others? Can you relate to what Priyanka is sharing?”

“Totally.” Many heads nodded.

Tom joined the conversation: “But then there’s the issue that when I’m in my body, and I just feel bored.”

“Your problem is that you’re addicted to trouble,” Gabriella sighed.

“I’m working on that.”

“This is really important for all of you. You need to learn that you can be present in the body and open to your angelic senses. That way you can be balanced but not bored.”

“Hey, that’s what Uncle Adamus has been saying,” Tom replied.

“Glad to hear he’s finally taking my advice. What are your thoughts, Aiko? Aiko? Where is she?”

“She’s probably using her invisibility cloak again,” someone guessed.

“We talked about this, Aiko. It’s safe to be visible now,” Gabriella searched the room with her gaze. A shy woman materialized on one of the chairs.

“I didn’t mean to hide. It’s just a habit.”

“You’ll get used to it. Alright, now let’s talk about forgiveness. Henrik, we haven’t heard from you in a while. Want to share?”

“What’s there to forgive? We had a mission. It needed to be done. We did it,” a broad-shouldered man grumbled.

“So you are completely at peace with the experience?”

“Doesn’t matter. Whether I like it or not, it was my job.”

“Oh, but it does matter. How do you feel about it?” Gabriella asked.

One of the torches exploded in the room, violet sparks shooting in every direction. “Sorry,” Henrik mumbled.

“Don’t apologize. It’s healthy to express your emotions. Anyone else?”

A woman wearing leather pants and black eyeliner lifted a hand. “I just don’t know how to trust my soul. How can I count on her when she doesn’t even care about what I’m going through as a human?”

“Have you talked to her?” Gabriella replied.

“No. But if she wanted to talk to me, she could reach out. Why do I have to initiate the contact?”

“Because you want to connect to your soul, even though you’re denying it, and secondly, she respects your free choice. Soul will never interfere with your free will,” Gabriella explained patiently.

“Fine, I admit it. I’m stuck.”

“Good, now we’re getting somewhere. Anybody want to encourage Sabrina?”

“I get how you’re feeling, Sabrina. But you know what’s going to happen if you don’t forgive your soul. It’s either that or face the Dragon,” the silver haired lady said.

“Okay, so what do I do?”

“Make a choice to let go of the guilt.”

“That’s it?”

“That’s it. But it’s gotta come from the heart.”

“I know.”

“Thank you, Sabrina. I’m sure many of you can relate,” Gabriella remarked.

“Honestly, I can’t,” a man with tattoos responded. “Realm work was the coolest damn thing ever. If I could, I’d go right back to it. Well, maybe not. Anyway, we’re like the original Guardians of the Galaxy. And you Sabrina, you were a kick-ass realm worker. Wear it with honor, girl!”

The group responded with cheers and claps. Even Sabrina smiled.

“Thank you for that refreshing take, Jack. Time to wrap it up for today. How was your first meeting, Katie?” Gabriella asked.

“Good. I’m actually feeling a little lighter without the wings.”

“Excellent. We’ll meet again next week. And don’t forget your complimentary energy massage at the Service Centre.”

And thus, Katie returned to the Earthly realm, with new friends in her heart and a dash of hope in her pocket. Thank you, Tobias, for creating the Service Centre, she called into the ethers.

This short story was inspired by the documentary series Into the Apocalypse, masterfully directed by Anastasia McMillan and produced by the Crimson Circle. In the documentary, a group of masters (including me) share about our experiences going into the apocalypse. For me, it was a raw attempt at shedding my invisibility cloak and, through the process of making the documentary, I noticed the magical effect of sharing my multidimensional experiences. Few things are as healing as being seen and recognized in my full-spectrum self.

One of the challenges of realm work was that I felt very alone in it. Especially because I didn’t understand on a conscious level what was happening, and therefore didn’t have the words to talk about it. But I do now, and it’s bringing me a lot of joy. Whether you were a realm worker or not, all of us have something valuable to share and express. In the era of the new light, invisibility cloaks are out of fashion.

  1. Oh, yesterday I watched a movie about a falling angel
    Angel’s wings are so familiar.
    Our own angelic existence
    It’s coming forward.
Send the energy of Korea’s Shaumbra

  2. 👏👏👏👏🥰♠️
Thank you Dear Kim for beautiful storie✨🎁💖
    Yes, yes…. so familiar 😉😅☺️🙏💕

  3. Dear Kim,
Thank you!!! Just smiling after reading your post!
The Guardians of the Galaxy has been one of my favorite movies of all time – have watched it numerous times to remind myself of all the adventures I’ve been on in the galaxy. To remind myself of that part of me that I cloaked in order to be here on earth. At the same time…I guess an AND…getting more and more use to being fully here in this body…at 65!

  4. Thank you! What a gift to have this story touch on so many points of being a retired realm worker with humor and care! Thank you for making me laugh and cry at the same time. Last night, I put on the Masters Pause “I Am Cleansing” and went to the SSC to have a good re-balancing in a beautiful setting. Ahhh… Being a long time member of CC-it was good to go back to the SS. I -forgot how luxurious and supportive it was. I am in my body so much more these days, but yesterday not so much. Perfect timing to have this published right now. This post Realm Worker phase has been something. Yup, I think I still had on my wings too-isn’t there another “job?” LOL! I took them off again last night. Going through that next phase of grief at losing my job. Hi, My name is Denise…

  5. RWA Club indeed… OMG a month ago or so I was feeling how cool it would be to have a Realm Worker Club Anonymous…
And now I am reeding your article!…
Are we telepathically doing it already 🙂 ??

  6. Dear Kim,
As I began reading this article, I felt amusement AND then the floodgates opened with great sobs of grief and release. WOW! Finally the self-acknowledgement of All that I truly AM, And the service I performed as a Realm Worker. No need to hide from that anymore! Time to truly Allow and Receive ALL THAT I AM, AND ALWAYS HAVE BEEN!
    Deep gratitude!

    I

  7. THIS. IS. BEAUTIFUL!!!
SO well-written, humorous, and relatable on every level!
Thank you, Kim. Your Full-Spectrum-Self is RADIANT!

  8. Kim, this was so funny :). Love, love, love the story! Marvellous! What a delight. And also the images do it justice, I feel.
(Secretly hoping it’s going to be a series of stories ;-)).

  9. Shikaiyana Nelson

Thank you Kim, so relatable I laughed and smiled as I so understand the contents. Ex realm worker. I feel there is something missing with the communication relating to being an Ex realm worker, it will open up what it is I feel is missing in my understanding,. Loved the comment (secretly hoping it’s going to be a series of stories)

  10. Thank you Kim, I feel a lot better for reading this; Less sad, confused and lonely and more embracing of my experience as a Realm Worker.
It is now complete and over.
This ‘Realm Worker Veteran’ is now claiming her generous ‘Realm Worker Pension’ and enjoying her well deserved human life (BIG SMILE).

  11. Kim, thank you. This story was so refreshing. I laughed so hard and decided to end up at the Service Center on Wednesday for a meeting of former Guardians of the Galaxy 😂 this is such a great idea and I need it. I hope you write more 🥰

  12. Thank you, Kim! Very well written, I love it!! Love your sense of humour. I’m sure you know it, but you are a great writer, please write more for us and your self.

  13. Surinder Makker

Thank you, thank you, thank you Kim…
This was oh so relatable and needed.
Got teary eyed a few lines into what you are calling a “story”; it is so freaking real. Having trouble typing these words – focusing through the tears is the issue….😊🥰🖤🤍

  14. Today I felt a need to listen again to Realm Workers call to return. While listening I opened IG and of course I found your article. I never had read others’ than Cauldre’s articles. I mean I was starting, but I dropped after few sentences: they either were boring or too much cheerful or both. This also related to keahak comments: too much cheerful, while I am deadly tired/retired. This story was different and 100% true for me. I am still crying. Thank you

  15. Dear Kim, I can relate to the story so much. And I just love, that you have written it with so much humor and compassion. It feels like a warm comforting blanket. Thank you for writing it, and I would be interested in a follow up story. (-:

  16. kimberly massey

Invisibly cloak, I can relate. And thank you for sharing yourself in the apocalypse interviews. They were wonderful for me to watch.

  17. Dear Kim,
Thank you for shedding your invisibility cloak. You are such a beautiful Woman – Human – Master – Angel (I have very much enjoyed every moment of the “Apocalype” films)!
    Hugs, Erdmuthe
